UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY

The Child and Family Health research group in the Department of Child, Youth, and Family Studies (Director: Natalie Williams, Ph.D.) is seeking motivated research assistants to help with two new projects.

The first study, “Implications of Insecure Parent-Child Attachment for Childhood Obesity Risk,” examines how toddlers’ growth from 18 to 24 months is affected by aspects of their social relationships, temperament and behaviors, and home environment. The second study, “Impact of Massage Therapy on Well-being of Parents with Children Recovering from Traumatic Injury,” is investigating therapeutic massage as a tool to reduce stress and anxiety and improve sleep for parents whose children are receiving inpatient treatment at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.

Research Assistants may work on one or both studies, with responsibilities including:
• Scheduling study visits
• Administering written surveys and conducting phone surveys
• Assisting with a laboratory-based assessment of the parent-child attachment relationship and short tasks designed to assess toddlers’ attention and inhibition.
• Entering data into databases
