The Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be selling popcorn Oct. 24-28 to raise money for the Nebraska Letterbox Club, which sends educational packages to children in Nebraska’s foster care system.

The fundraiser will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24-28 outside of the Nebraska East Union. Bags of popcorn can be purchased for $2.25 each, while popcorn balls will be sold for $1.00 each. The same items will also be available for purchase throughout the week in the ACFW in Room 219 of the Barkley Memorial Center. Popcorn gift boxes may also be ordered through ACFW.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward sending monthly packages filled with books, math activities, games, stationery, and handwritten letters to each child in the Letterbox program for six months. The first of the six packages for this year’s group will be sent in February. Each year, ACFW budgets about $200 per child, which covers all of the books and materials, as well as shipping costs.

This marks the fifth year that ACFW has partnered with the Letterbox Club, a program that began in the United Kingdom in 2007. The Letterbox Club at Nebraska is the only partnership in existence in the United States.
