Outstanding ability, a positive attitude and proactive engagement are attributes offered to describe Ben Lennander, the latest CEHS Staff Star Award recipient.

Lennander, budget/business coordinator for the CEHS Business Center, was nominated in part for his ability to streamline reporting processes and at the same time provide customers with better data. To do that, he created a SAP Index system that provides reports to grant coordinators and others who manage cost objects in the college.

“This has eliminated the paper pushing or individual emails that in the past were done to ensure the proper people had this information available,” said his nominator. “He has created numerous reports that have saved time, money and made things a little bit easier for many in our college.”

Leading others to create better service for the college has elevated the Business Center team to new levels of excellence and others have noticed. The nominator noted that because of his contributions, the Business Center team is sought out for “training, testing or guidance by others on campus.”

Attitude is everything, as the saying goes, and Lennander is equipped with an infectious attitude that has a positive affect on others.

“He always comes to work with a positive attitude ready to face any challenges presented to him. He often can be heard whistling in the hallway portraying a joyful and happy atmosphere,” said his nominator.

Due to budget cuts, the team is understaffed, but that doesn’t faze Lennander. As the nominator notes, he’s taken on more work when necessary and looks for additional efficiencies wherever and whenever possible.

“He is always looking at the positive side and finding ways to move forward and not dwell on the frustrations,” said the nominator. “He has become highly involved in the CEHS community and is one of a handful of staff that attend every collegewide faculty meeting. He makes it a point to encourage others to join him at staff council events and is also involved at the campus level in University Association for Administrative Development and campus events with international students.

“He is well known in our college and on campus, due to his ability to get things done timely, well, accurately and with a smile,” added the nominator.
