Amy Brown honored with CEHS Staff Star Award

Amy Brown, Administrative Associate in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS), is the most recent CEHS Staff Star Award recipient.

Amy’s deep knowledge of the people and programs in NHS, CEHS, IANR, and across campus facilitates her ability to consistently generate innovative ideas. With a newly renovated space in Home Economics, it was Amy's idea explore furnishing the rooms by acquiring gently used furniture from the University Health Center that was being sent to surplus. That furniture now enhances the renovated space of HECO and the capacity of the Clinical Nutrition Research Programs. The results are a beautiful, professional, and economically furnished Clinical Nutrition Research facility that will enhance the comfort and efficiency of our faculty, staff, students, and research participants.

Amy also exhibits outstanding performance and service that is well above and beyond the call of duty. She does not sweat the small stuff, is detail oriented, listens well, and presents solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Amy is also very cool under pressure, demonstrated when a gas leak was discovered in the building. According to a nominator "Upon notification of a potential gas leak by a faculty member and their student, Amy sprang into action to contact the police, alert all members of Leverton Hall, recruited select faculty and staff to assist with evacuation, and went from door to door throughout the whole building to make sure every student, faculty, and staff was safely evacuated."

Amy also has excellent interpersonal skills. In fall of 2018 a graduate student who is very close to graduating this academic year, was strongly considering quitting school and leaving Nebraska for several months (or maybe forever), because they could not afford to pay several large and unexpected bills. Amy’s interpersonal skills, again combined with her vast and compassionate network of colleagues and friends, resulted in the retention of one of our most capable, and nearly ready to graduate, graduate students.
