Tim Guetterman, applied research methodologist and co-director of the Michigan Mixed Methods Program, led the Spring 2019 Emerging Scholar Workshop event hosted by CYFS’ Nebraska Academy for Methodology, Analytics and Psychometrics.
The event’s March 7 research presentation, “Training and Assessing Communication Skills Using Virtual Human Technology: A Mixed Methods Investigation,” is now available on video at https://go.unl.edu/4vvy.
Guetterman’s presentation describes a long-term, mixed methods investigation to explore, test and evaluate virtual human technology for its potential to enhance training and assessment of health communication skills.
The two-day event also featured a mentoring session for emerging scholars and a two-part workshop, which addressed how joint displays can visually integrate qualitative and quantitative results, and represent integration in proposals, manuscripts and dissertations. Joint displays have emerged as a state-of-the-art procedure in mixed methods research.
The MAP Academy’s Emerging Scholar Workshop series is designed to introduce established scholars (i.e., faculty) and emerging scholars — graduate students and post-doctoral fellows — to a wide range of methodological topics and tools.
