There will be some exciting new changes to News You Can Use coming up! The first major change is that News You Can Use will be changing platforms. The newsletter will be built and distributed using MailChimp. This change will allow the creation of a more interactive newsletter for you! The new format will include weekly tweet spotlights, so make sure your tweet game is on fire! It will also include the option to include videos or audio, which will help feature videos and podcasts. There will also be spotlights where CEHS faculty, staff, and students will be highlighted for the amazing things we do every day! If you currently receive News You Can Use, you will automatically receive the new newsletter.
The other major change is how stories will be submitted. To submit stories, please email the story and a picture to cehssocial@unl.edu. This email will be the main point of contact for all things newsletter. These are big changes coming up, and while efforts are being made to make sure everything transitions smoothly, please feel free to email cehssocial@unl.edu with any issues, especially if you are not receiving the new newsletter. The newsletter will continue to be distributed at 7 a.m. every Friday.
There have been some good questions asked about the new format. Below is some Q&A to clarify for everyone.
–When should we start submitting stories to the email?
You can start submitting stories to the email now. Stories will be reviewed some will be held to go into a future issue the new newsletter. Any dates in the story will effect whether the story will appear in the last few editions of the old newsletter or will be held for the new newsletter format.
–What is the deadline for submissions to be included that week?
The deadline will be 2pm the Thursday before the newsletter comes out the next day (Friday). The new newsletter format requires a little extra time to prepare.
–What size should the photos be?
The size of the photos can be adjusted, so what is important is the quality of the picture submitted. Be sure to include high quality pictures with your news submissions.
–If we want to include a video, should it be attached to the email as well, or just provide the link from MediaHub?
You can send the video in the email or send a MediaHub link. Either will work.
–If we’d like a story to run multiple weeks, are we expected to resubmit each week we want it to be published?
Stories only need to be submitted once. Please indicate how long you would like the story to appear.
