Pull out your Calendars and Note these Future Center Events!

Below are some of the signature events that will occur at the Center for Civic Engagement during the 2019-2020 academic year. The dates listed are tentative and could be subject to change:

September 4: The Husker Civic Challange fair.
Service-Learning Fairs are an excellent opportunity for non-profit organizations to meet with students looking to complete their ABCS service-learning course requirement, find a community-based research project or to serve in their new community. Faculty and staff attend the Fairs to find new partners or rekindle community partnerships.

September 15: 9/11 National Day of Service.
The 9/11 National Day of service is an event that began in 2002 in remembrance of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. People nationwide gather together on the anniversary of this day and serve their communities to honor the victims, survivors, firefighters and law enforcement personnel who responded to the attacks.

October 19-22 and March 21-26: Nebraska Disaster Recovery Service Corps Service Study ASB.
A Service-Study ASB places teams of Nebraska students in communities to engage in community service-learning during their summer, fall, winter or spring breaks and weekends. This fall and spring break, students will serve in flooded Nebraska communities through the Nebraska Disaster Recovery Service Corps. While in communities, students learn about community unmet needs which they may otherwise have had little or no direct knowledge, experience and understanding. Being completely immersed in diverse environments enable participants to experience, discuss, and understand social issues in a significant way.

January 3-12: Winter Service Study ASB - Voting Rights Past, Present, and Future.
This winter's Service Study ASB will take place in the south. Focusing on the history of voting rights in America, students will have the opportunity to serve communities in Alabama while learning civil rights, protest, and suffrage during the 20th century.

May 10-17, 2020: Guatemala Service Study ASB.
Have an interest in international service? Join the Center and serve in building new homes for working families in Guatemala, all while learning about the history and difficulties surrounding affordable housing in the 21st century.
