Summer CS opportunities for teachers
The UNL-Code.org Partnership presents the following professional development opportunities for you this summer (please forward to colleagues if you do not teach CS). Be sure to create a free Code.org account to view these workshops.
Grades 6-10: Computer Science Discoveries (CSD)
Computer Science Discoveries is an introductory computer science course for students in grades 6-10. Mapped to CSTA standards, the course takes a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as problem solving, programming, physical computing, user centered design, and data, while inspiring students as they build their own websites, apps, animations, games, and physical computing systems.
CS Discoveries can be flexibly taught as a single semester, two semesters over multiple years, or as a full-year course. Options are even available for less than one semester. Our curriculum is available at no cost for anyone, anywhere to teach. More at https://code.org/educate/csd
In-person training for teachers, UNL City Campus: June 26-30: https://studio.code.org/pd/workshops/12993/enroll
Online training for teachers, July 10-14: https://studio.code.org/pd/workshops/13010/enroll

Grades 9-12: Computer Science Principles (CSP)
Computer Science Principles introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. More than a traditional introduction to programming, it is a rigorous, engaging, and approachable curriculum that explores many of the foundational ideas of computing so all students understand how these concepts are transforming the world we live in.
This year-long curriculum can be taught as an introductory class and as an AP course - no prerequisites required for students or for teachers new to computer science! In addition, our curriculum is available at no cost for anyone, anywhere to teach. More at https://code.org/educate/csp

Grades 9-12: Computer Science A (CSA)
Computer Science A (CSA) introduces students to software engineering and object-oriented programming and design using the Java programming language. This curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including the design of solutions to problems, the use of data structures to organize large sets of data, the development and implementation of algorithms to process data and discover new information, the analysis of potential solutions, and the ethical and social implications of computing systems.
