The final steel beam of the new Link will be installed on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Nine months ago, tear down began on the Link on City Campus as part of the college’s $160 million facilities project. Phase 1 of this transformative investment includes the new “Link” building and renovation of Scott Engineering Center.

Hausmann Construction is now at the topping out point for Phase 1. “Topping out” is a tradition of placing the last steel beam atop a structure during its construction. Before being raised for placement, signatures are typically collected on the beam.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, August 26), installation of the final steel beam is planned. Due to COVID-19 precautions, a public ceremony will not be held. Instead, signatures from college and university supporters and others involved in the Phase I project have been gathered either remotely or by signing the beam individually. University Communications will be creating a video with some of the signings and remarks that will be shared in the next couple of weeks.

The beam is scheduled to be installed on the morning on August 26; viewing is possible via the live feed on the Construction Central site - the link is below.
