Nebraska Research Days to feature engineering faculty, keynote celebrating ‘Women in Science’

The Office of Research and Economic Development is celebrating the research and creative accomplishments of University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty and students during Nebraska Research Days, which run through Friday, Nov. 6.

The five-day event will engage the campus through a mix of digital features and traditional events that have been reimagined for a virtual format – including the Innovator Celebration, Faculty Research and Creative Slam, Nebraska Lecture and guest speakers.

The Association of Women in Science (AWIS) is sponsoring multiple events on Thursday, Nov. 5, including the keynote presentation – “Celebrating Women in Science” – to be delivered by Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina in space and former director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Link to registration can be found at the link below.

Lily Wang, associate dean for faculty and inclusion and professor of architectural engineering, will be on a panel – Thursday, Nov. 5 at 9:30 a.m. – for the AWIS Awards and Recognition Roundtable. This event will discuss institutional resources that help faculty pursue external honors important in their fields. A link to registration for the roundtable can be found at the link below.

Among the events still scheduled, and involving other College of Engineering faculty, are:

  • Faculty Recognition event, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 10-11 a.m.: Videos highlighting 2019-20 research accomplishments, with presentation from Bob Wilhelm, vice chancellor for research and economic development and professor of mechanical and materials engineering.
