UNL’s 2020 Combined Campaign is currently underway and runs through Friday (Dec. 18). As Dean Perez wrote in an email to faculty and staff Dec. 1, the college leadership encourages all members of our community to consider channeling some of your philanthropy through the UNL 2020 Combined Campaign to help demonstrate the university’s commitment to others.
If you have already participated, thank you so much!
If you have not yet had a chance to go to the pledge site, there’s still time and here’s something important we recently learned: The IRS is reminding taxpayers that, following special tax law changes enacted last spring under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, cash donations of up to $300 made before Dec. 31, 2020, can be deducted from income when people file their taxes in 2021, even if they don't itemize deductions on their tax returns. This can mean extra tax savings for those making donations to qualifying tax-exempt organizations.
In addition, the CARES Act temporarily raises charitable contribution limits for taxpayers who itemize their deductions. While the tax laws generally cap the deduction for cash contributions to public charities at 60 percent of a taxpayer's adjusted gross income, the CARES Act raises that limit to 100 percent for 2020. Go to https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/how-the-cares-act-changes-deducting-charitable-contributions for more information from the IRS.
Note: the Combined Campaign gives donors the option of making contributions NOW before the end of the 2020 tax year!
Although we are very hopeful for a financially successful campaign, UNL is gearing it’s annual “internal competition” among major units towards participation.
Chancellor Green is asking each of us to go to http://go.unl.edu/combined and click on the red “E-PLEDGE NOW” button to log-in. After doing so, click on the red “PLEDGE NOW” button to continue the process and determine how/if to participate.
To explore the many options for making contributions to specific organizations, scroll down to the 2020 Agency Codes download. You can select to participate financially or select to not participate in giving this year.
The action of making this selection will count as employee participation.
Thank you very much!
