Crucial Conversations® training workshop May 16

A Spring 2022 Crucial Conversations® training workshop will be held Monday, May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Carol Joy Holling Conference and Retreat Center (Swanson Conference Center / Dillon Room) in Ashland, Nebraska.

Led by Durham School Director Lily Wang, a certified trainer of Crucial Conversations® for Mastering Dialogue, this workshop teaches powerful skill sets grounded in decades of social science research. Join this year's cohort by attending the in-person retreat on May 16. Optional follow-up Zoom sessions will be held throughout the coming year to assist in practicing and building one's crucial conversations skills.

This workshop is sponsored by the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction. While those in the Durham School receive priority registration, all faculty/postdocs/staff/graduate students in the College of Engineering are invited to register for remaining available spots on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Crucial Conversation is a discussion between two or more people where the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong. When conversations turn crucial, people tend to follow one of two ineffective paths: they either speak directly and abrasively to get the results they want but harm relationships, or they remain silent with the hope of preserving relationships only to sacrifice results. The material taught in this workshop, "Crucial Conversations® for Mastering Dialogue" gives people the skills to step into disagreement—rather than over or around it—and turn disagreement into dialogue for improved relationships and results.
