
The Discipline Based Education Research (DBER) program in the College of Engineering was represented at the 2025 ASEE Annual Conference by three faculty members, four graduate students, four undergraduate student researchers and three undergraduate students who participated in the Engineering Education Research (EER) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.
Shudipto Dishari, Ross McCollum Associate Professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, gave a plenary address, presenting a synopsis of her paper that won Overall Zone Best Paper as the top submission from the four U.S. zones.

Awards
- Gracie Kerr (CEE master's student), Hayden Wulf (CEE master's student), and Grace Panther (CEE) won the First Place Best Paper Award and Third Place Best Diversity Paper Award in the New Engineering Educators (NEE) Division. Their paper then went on to compete with the best papers from 11 other divisions in the Professional Interest Council II to win the Best PIC II Paper Award.
- Christopher Camacho (University of Texas at El Paso, former EER REU student), Heidi Diefes-Dux (BSE), and Anu Singh (Ohio State, EER Ph.D. alumni) won the Best Paper Award in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) Division.
- Jessica Deters (MME) was recognized at the ERM Business Meeting as a Star Reviewer for the Journal of Engineering Education, the field's premier journal.
- Jessica Deters (MME), Marie Paretti (Virginia Tech), Logan Perry (CEE), and Robin Ott (Virginia Tech) were recognized at the Educational Research and Methods (ERM) Business Meeting with an Honorable Mention for the William Elgin Wickenden Award for their Journal of Engineering Education article, "What does it mean to be prepared for work?": Perceptions of new engineers. The Wickenden Award recognizes the best paper published in the Journal of Engineering Education each year.
- Jessica Deters (MME) served on a panel in an ERM Special Session titled "Making JEE's Publication Process More Visible." Deters was invited to serve on the panel because she led the team of authors that won an Honorable Mention for the Wickendon Award.

- Heidi Diefes-Dux (BSE) and Logan Perry (CEE) hosted a special session in the NEE Division on "Intentional Integration of Reflection in Engineering Courses."
