Tracy Bicknell Holmes, a professor and engineering librarian, will discuss "Patent Searching for the Non-Specialist" in a 10:30 a.m., March 13 workshop in Love Library, room 111. The presentation is part of the University Libraries’ series of free, weekly workshops for faculty, staff and students.
The workshop will explore patents as a rich source of information on a wide variety of topics from chemistry to design to history, with a look at easy-to-use patent sources (Google Patents, USPTO, and PubWest) and search techniques. Learn how patents can be used to research design ideas, develop journalism topics, teach history, expose students to ethical dilemmas, and much more. The lecture is pertinent for staff and graduate students, but will also be of interest to undergraduates who wish to pursue academic fields.
The University Libraries are offering free weekly workshops through April 24. All are Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the first floor of Love Library South. Presenters are library subject specialists who also publish on a variety of information-related topics.
Registration, while not required, is available at http://unl.libcal.com/event.php?id=15886.
