Registration open for virtual conference featuring university startups

Registration is now open for DeepTechU, a free virtual conference featuring 48 startup companies from Midwestern national labs and research universities, including the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Taking place April 20-22, the conference is open to the general public, with a focus on university researchers, industry collaborators and venture capital investors. It will showcase companies in the following industry tracks: industrial technology, hardware and software, energy, and life sciences.

Participating startups affiliated with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln include:

Drone Amplified. The company is developing fire-fighting drone technology to manage controlled burns. Carrick Detweiler, associate professor of computer science and engineering, is the company’s chief executive officer.

Epicrop Technologies. The company is developing epigenetic technology to improve crop yields. Founding members include Michael Fromm and Sally McKenzie, both former Nebraska professors.

Synbiotic Health. The company is developing synbiotics, a combination of beneficial gut bacteria and the fuel that feeds them. Founding faculty include Bob Hutkins, Andy Benson and Tom Burkey, as well as Jens Walter, formerly a Nebraska faculty member.

Virtual Incision. The company is developing a miniature surgical robot for conducting less-invasive abdominal surgeries, such as colon resections. Shane Farritor, professor of mechanical and materials engineering, is the company’s chief technology officer.
