Herbie Husker prepares for his data to be migrated to Microsoft 365 cloud storage services.

Information Technology Services is continuing the process of migrating data from Box to Microsoft 365 cloud storage services. Beginning this week, Box users will be migrated in waves, or groups of users, based on the size of their Box accounts.

Users will be assigned to a wave based on their current data storage/usage within Box. You can see what wave you are assigned, and when you are tentatively scheduled to be migrated to OneDrive, by using the lookup tool on the ITS Box website.

During migration, users will receive an email notification three days in advance of when data will be migrated, as well as a reminder on the day of migration. Once data migration has begun, the Box account will be set to “Read Only,” data in Box will not be changeable, and the ability to sync folders and files to the desktop will be disabled. After migration, the user will begin using Microsoft OneDrive as the primary data storage tool.

Ahead of migration, please follow these guidelines:
• Don’t start moving now. Wait until you receive an email notification from Information Technology Services, who will provide tools and resources to migrate Box data.
• Do start cleaning now. Delete unnecessary files and remove yourself from files or folders that you don’t want or need. When you are finished cleaning, remember to empty Box trash.
• Don’t use/purchase other storage platforms for University data. ITS believes Microsoft 365 (OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams) will provide campus users the best, and most secure, cloud storage experience.

Training resources on how to use Microsoft’s services, as well as general information on the project, can be found online.
