The university's new All-In-The-Hall recycling program will roll out in Avery Hall and the Schorr Center the week of Dec. 19.

The university is adopting the new All-In-The-Hall recycling standard within campus buildings through phased implementation over the next few years, which will provide a convenient and consistent opportunity for the campus community to recycle within campus buildings. This program will be implemented in Avery Hall and the Schorr Center after the conclusion of the Fall semester during the week of Dec. 19.

Based on the success of the Recycling Pilot Project, which began operating in a number of campus buildings in December of 2020, the new standard will include the installation of standardized waste stations in centralized, high traffic locations throughout campus buildings. The standardized containers are designed to make recycling easier for the UNL community and campus visitors, utilizing image-focused graphics placed near eye level and shape-restrictive openings to cue users regarding accepted materials. Containers will be placed in high traffic areas throughout campus buildings, such as near restrooms and building entrances, to make waste disposal convenient for users. Custodial Services staff will repurpose their time spent collecting landfill waste from private office spaces in campus buildings to focus on servicing all waste streams from the centralized locations, including both landfill and recyclable materials.

UNL community members will be asked to monitor the waste they individually produce on campus and transport items to the nearest conveniently located, centralized station. By being mindful of the waste you produce on campus and properly disposing of that waste, you can make a difference and help UNL make progress towards its institutional sustainability goals. The School of Computing does not plan to proactively remove trash cans from faculty/staff offices but you can submit a request to support@cse.unl.edu if you no longer want to have a trash can in your office.

Included in this message, you will find a process visualization which provides additional information on your role in this program and how to properly use the stations.
