Are you curious about what it means to be a student in the Raikes School Design Studio and why it might be right for you? Join us for an information session on March 1!
Design Studio is a yearlong capstone learning experience within the Raikes School. In Design Studio, teams of juniors and seniors partner with sponsoring businesses and other agencies to design and develop real-world, software-based solutions meeting each sponsor’s needs. Students gain product development, architecture, technology, process, teamwork, and leadership skills essential in today’s professional development world. Design Studio gives students and sponsors the ability to interact and create innovative software-based solutions, while benefiting from the support of Raikes School faculty, staff, and facilities.
Design Studio works with local and regional companies such as Microsoft, Hudl, Kiewit, Mutual of Omaha, Olsson, and many others. The projects go through the entire software development life cycle. These projects vary in subject matter, but all end in an innovative technology deliverable. Students can work with numerous exciting technologies including .NET, JavaScript, Python, PowerBI, React, MongoDB, SQL, Docker, Azure and AWS, getting to learn from and collaborate with many experts in the field.
Currently, we plan for 18-20 projects next year with teams made up of five to six very talented junior and senior students. The experience students receive through these projects is unmatched. This is truly a unique and very beneficial opportunity. There are also several options with how Design Studio can fit into your academic plans and count towards your degree and graduation.
If you will be a junior or senior this upcoming academic year (2023-24), please consider joining us to learn more about this project-based class and becoming an associate. If you are not able to attend the session at this time but are still interested in learning more about Design Studio, please contact the Design Studio staff at designstudio@unl.edu.
