UNL celebrates students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education. Connect with other first-generation students and faculty and staff dedicated to your success through the below opportunities.

Meet New Friends
Attend First-Gen RSO events. This student organization meets every other Tuesday during the semester to build community for first-generation students. All events are free and from 5:00-6:00 pm. No rsvp needed—just stop by when you can!

Share a Meal
Enjoy a free meal while meeting other first-generation students and faculty and staff who are first-generation advocates. Tuesday, February 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lark Room, Willa Cather Dining Complex.

Attend the Career Fairs
While the Fairs are not specifically for first-generation students, it is great way to find internships, build your networks and explore careers that you may not even know exist. View a full listing of events which start the second week of February.

Make Your Voice Heard
Apply to be a representative of the First-Generation Nebraska (FGN) Advisory Board. The FGN Board—comprised of faculty, staff and students—develops, implements and assesses FGN programs and events. The Board meets three times a semester during the academic year and the summer as needed. Applications are due February 23. Apply here.
