This year the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will award promotion and/or tenure to 100 faculty, including Dr. Chris Bourke, who will be promoted to Professor of Practice.
Bourke graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a Ph.D. in computer science in 2008 and joined the School of Computing in 2011. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Practice in 2015. His research interests include computer science education, computational complexity theory, and machine learning, though his primary activities are in teaching. He has over 25 years of computing education experience. Bourke teaches a wide variety of computing courses with a focus on introductory-level and honors courses. Each year he also teaches an interdisciplinary virtual reality course in collaboration with Steve Kolbe in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. In addition to teaching, Bourke has authored several open educational resources and textbooks, hosts a successful YouTube channel, published educational research papers in top computer science education venues, and serves as the director of the School of Computing Honors Program.
