Information Technology Services has launched an initiative that will streamline and modernize digital collaboration across the University of Nebraska system.

Supported by Microsoft, the Future Ready Cloud Collaborative Workspace project will migrate more than 166,000 accounts and four petabytes of data from users at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Kearney and University of Nebraska at Omaha, as well as the Office of the President.

The work is designed to break down barriers between the universities, streamline tools, and help prepare the NU system for next-generation technologies, including artificial intelligence. Here are seven things Husker faculty, staff and students need to know as the project rolls out:

1. Major tech upgrade is underway
UNL began moving accounts to a new, unified system on March 24. The transition will continue through December 2025 as part of a university-wide project to improve communication, security and ease of use. Campus units will be notified before they are migrated to the new system.

2. One login for everything
Soon, you’ll only need one username and password to access services like Microsoft 365, your campus computer, and SAP/Firefly. Your new login will be your NUID followed by "@nebraska.edu" — for example: 12345678@nebraska.edu.

3. Your email address isn't changing
Keep using your current @unl.edu or @huskers.unl.edu email address. During the transition, you may see emails from @nebraska.edu, but that’s temporary and can be ignored. Those addresses will disappear when the migration ends in December.

4. Shared files might need a refresh
After your account moves, links you’ve shared through OneDrive or SharePoint will stop working. You’ll need to re-share them. If someone you work with hasn’t migrated yet, you may also need to recheck file permissions.

5. It’s a long process — here’s why
The migration is being done in phases over 10 months to manage the high number of users and large amounts of data. This schedule helps ensure better support each step of the way. You can view the full timeline here.

6. Help is just a click (or call) away
