Course Objectives:
This course will focus on mastery of concepts and techniques for identifying and mitigating security threats to web applications and cloud-based applications.

Students in this course will gain familiarity with:
• Creating a virtual network in the Azure portal
• Adding a subnet in the Azure portal and how to change its size and properties
• Changing the address space size
• Creating a VM on Azure and viewing a VM’s network settings
• Creating a network security group, adding allow and deny rules to it, assigning it to a subnet and network interface
• Creating an application security group, associating an ASG with a VM, and how to create rules with ASGs

Students will also gain exposure to:
• Network security concepts
• Working on Cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure
• Communication of technical results (done in context of lab documents)
• Intrusion detection and intrusion prevention
• Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS)

• Web application security risk avoidance and mitigation strategies
• Cloud based computing – introductory concepts
• Cloud technology resource providers
• Cloud based networking
• Cloud networking security

CSCE 360 is a technical elective and also one of the courses required for the cybersecurity minor.

Note: This course is typically offered during the spring semester, and this is the first semester it is being offered in the fall. It will still continue to be offered in the spring semester.
