The Group in California

Ethan Weber is a Computer Engineering student at UNL and a member of the Engineering Learning Community (ELC). He recently went on a tour of NASA in California with the Community. Continue reading to learn more about Weber's trip, his experience in the learning community, and why you should join.

Bits and Bytes (B&B): What activities did you do on the trip?

Ethan Weber (EW): Besides the company tours, I walked Mission and Pacific beach, visited a local mall, and visited the zoo.

B&B: What was your visit to NASA like? Did anything specifically stand out?

EW: The NASA tour was really cool, though one thing I noticed is that unlike the other places we visited, they had a more defined tour, where the others seemed more like they grabbed a bunch of engineers and asked them to show us around. Downside of that is it seemed a little more disconnected from engineering than the others.

B&B: What do you think you took away from the experience?

EW: California is expensive, I don't fit on submarines, and there's a lot of different places and jobs you can find through an Engineering career.

B&B: What has been you experience in the engineering Learning Community?

EW: My experience in the ELC has been pretty good, and would do it again, if I had to do things over.

B&B: What sort of activities do you do?

EW: As for spare time, I mess around with whatever software I'm interested in at the time from Sony Vegas to the UDK, and some seasons play video games competitively, occasionally playing basketball or soccer if I like the weather.

B&B: Why would you encourage other students to get involved?

EW: ELC is a good way to meet people, even if you aren't someone that communicates with others easily, and some of the stuff like this trip that they do is just rather cool.
