The College of Arts & Sciences chose Deb Heckens, CSE staff member, for their February Applause Award. Congratulations, Deb!

From the College:

Our Applause for February goes out to Deb Heckens, Accounting Technician in the Computer Sciences and Engineering Department. As her nominators say:

“Deb is a pleasure to work with! She has been with the University for a number of years, so her "institutional knowledge" is a great resource. She always has time for a question, and is willing to help with almost any issue. She is very deserving of the Applause award!”

“Deb Heckens has been the face of the CSE department for almost 38 years. She has served as Department Secretary, Graduate Secretary, and is now Office Manager, and in all of these areas she has been incredibly competent, helpful, and cheerful. CSE students, staff, and faculty have come to depend on her as have staff in many other units at UNL. The chair of CSE says that he could not do the job of department chair without her knowledgeable assistance, her positive attitude, and her willingness to try to make CSE a better place for students, staff and faculty. Deb's co-workers have remarked how Deb never gets overwhelmed or angry. She responds in an incredibly calm and optimistic way even when she is juggling multiple deadlines at once. Deb personally maintains departmental knowledge from her 30+ years of experience that is an invaluable resource to all, and she is always happy to share. Please award her an Applause!”

“Deb is a cheerful, hardworking, and valued member of the CAS Business Team. She is always the first to volunteer when testing new applications to assist in moving the University’s processes forward. She always asks the right questions and is quick to respond to inquiries made by our office. Deb is a pleasure to work with. Please award her with an Applause!”

“Deb Heckens is a perfect example of someone who deserves an Applause Award. She is a wonderful go to person who will help you figure the most mundane things out. When I first came to the University, I contacted her on several items and I am sure I was quite the pain. However, she never appeared annoyed or frustrated with me. She helped guide me to where I needed to go or who I needed to talk to. For someone who was new, it was a great relief to know that Deb was there to help. Today, whether it is in a meeting or the parking lot Deb always greets me with a smile on her face and a genuine spirit. Deb is a kind and caring person who deserves to win the Applause Award!”

“Deb is very deserving and long overdue to receive an Applause Award. She is always positive and extremely good at all her roles within not only Computer Sciences but at the College level and even more at the University level. Having the same role as Deb in another Department, it's great to have her as a resource to go to when I have a question. Her efforts and input with the new PAF generator has streamlined some processes that were not available to us a few years back. This has not only had an impact on her job but on other staff members University Wide. So with all that Debbie does, I feel that "it's time" for her to awarded an Applause!”
