Alice Steinglass, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Code.org, will be speaking on "Increasing Equity in Computer Science" today at 11:00 a.m. in the Kauffman Great Hall. This event is free and open to the public with a reception following.

Abstract:

Why do girls represent half of AP Calculus students but 20% of AP Computer Science? In top research universities, why are only 11% of Computer Science and Computer Engineering graduates black or Hispanic? We'll look at how we can close the opportunity gap. At this point Code.org has over 2 million girls enrolled in computer science classes and our user base is 37% black and Hispanic. We'll look at how we can change the pattern from kindergarten through high school.
