Department hosts annual CSE Day for high school students

The CSE Department’s annual CSE Day was held on Monday, April 3 this year. This event is geared toward high school students who have an interest in the computing fields. The students started the day by taking the Compute Exam which was followed by a 3-hour programming competition.

Thirty-six teams from Lincoln, Omaha, and surrounding areas participated. There were approximately 150 students, coaches, and volunteers involved with the event.

The winners of the Compute Exam were:

1st Place: Caleb Pecka from Omaha Central
2nd Place: Nick Nguyen from Millard North
3rd Place: Evan Fulton from Lincoln Southwest

The winners of the programming competition were:

1st Place: Shawn Dong, Zachary Steffek, and Matthew Vavricek from Millard North
2nd Place: Ray Huck, Caleb Pecka, and Calvin Shafer from Omaha Central
3rd Place: Thomas Gerot, Andrew Griess, and Aaron Vigal from Millard West

The day wrapped up with a luncheon, awards ceremony, and optional tours. All winners received a plaque. 1st and 2nd place students received a scholarship to come to the University and major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering. Thank you to all who participated!
