The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is launching a new scholarship for students who will be first year students at UNL, Southeast Community College or Western Nebraska Community College in Fall 2020. https://scimath.unl.edu/stem-connect/.

STEM CONNECT is a need-based scholarship, and therefore, eligibility is determined, in part, by the FAFSA. Eligible students attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln also must declare a major in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering or software engineering at the time the scholarship is awarded.

Next month we will announce the details for the application process for first year students at UNL, SCC or WNCC. For now, teachers should urge seniors to complete a FAFSA so students can learn whether they have the financial need that makes them eligible for federal support.

STEM CONNECT Scholars will receive a renewable scholarship, with a maximum of $8,000 per year, for up to four years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln or two years at SCC or WNCC and then two years after transfer to UNL.

Students selected for STEM CONNECT will work closely with both faculty and peer mentors and will be part of a community of students who share an interest in STEM subjects, providing opportunities to network with peers and develop a common identity through the program. STEM CONNECT will challenge a group of students to develop their leadership potential and enhance diversity in STEM careers.
