Nebraska's discipline-based education research (DBER) community welcomes researchers and instructors nationwide to the inaugural X-DBER Conference, May 18-19, 2020, to explore intersecting themes and directions in education research across STEM disciplines.

With a particular focus at the undergraduate level, this conference represents an opportunity for researchers, faculty, students and program directors to discuss and advance the research that forms the basis of national recommendations for improving STEM education.

The conference features nationally recognized keynote speakers and fosters cross-disciplinary conversations on several core themes:
• Educational tools and interventions: Kathy Perkins, physics, University of Colorado-Boulder
• Learning and cognitive research: Joanne Lobato, mathematics, San Diego State University
• Diversity, inclusion and equity: Alex Mejia, engineering, University of San Diego
• Integrating disciplinary practices: Nicole Becker, chemistry, University of Iowa
• Student experiences and affect: Beth Schussler, biology, University of Tennessee

X-DBER 2020 will begin at 9 a.m. on May 18 and end by 4 p.m. on May 19. The conference also features participant talks and a Monday evening poster session. Financial support for hotel accommodations will be provided for a limited number of participants. Abstracts are due by March 31, and registration closes on April 17.

The conference is organized by Brian Couch, associate professor in biological sciences; Joe Dauer, associate professor in the School of Natural Resources; Tomas Helikar, associate professor in biochemistry; and Alena Moon, assistant professor in chemistry. X-DBER 2020 will be held at the Nebraska Union on City Campus and is supported by the NebraskaSCIENCE Program of Excellence and the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education.
