It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Julie Kreizel, a distinguished teacher and leader in mathematics education, renowned throughout Nebraska.

Julie began her teaching career in 1998, educating sixth graders at Hawthorne Elementary School, followed by tenures at Scott and Mickel Middle Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was a member of the inaugural cohort of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Math-in-the-Middle program, earning her MAT degree in 2006. Julie swiftly moved into leadership roles within the Lincoln Public School District, serving as the Middle School Math Coordinator until her retirement in 2022, following her diagnosis of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Recently, she was honored with the 2023 Milton M. Beckman Lifetime Achievement Award at the Nebraska Asscciation for Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference for her extensive contributions to mathematics education. Julie was a deserving recipient who will be deeply missed.
