Dear Mathematics Teacher,

The mathematics faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln would like to inform you of a summer camp we offer for students entering grades 10-12 who are interested in math: the Supporting Participation and Advancing Real-world Knowledge in Math and Data Science: SPARK-MDS camp.

Replacing the previous AGAM: Nebraska Cryptography Camp, the SPARK-MDS summer camp, is a weeklong camp that provides a challenging yet supportive environment for students to explore the mathematical principles behind data science and machine learning. Camp participants take a course about data science and participate in networking opportunities. Students will work with mathematicians from Nebraska to develop their mathematical skills, boost confidence in their abilities, and discover applications of mathematics in real world.

The camp will run from June 8 to 13, 2025 on the campus of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Registration costs between $625 and $725 depending on the time of registration; two Eva Winter scholarships ($500 each) and other scholarships are available. Applications are now being taken online, until Monday, May 19, 2025:

The Nebraska Department for Mathematics encourages any aspiring mathematicians in your school to apply and join a growing community of their peers who are interested in creating a supportive environment for high school students in mathematics.

Please bear in mind that admission to the camp is competitive. Applications are from now to May 19, and applicants will be notified by May 31.

All the best,

Yu Jin (yjin6@nebraska.edu), Shiying Li, Mikil Foss
