If you’re working with parents/guardians who want to support their children’s math learning, we have free resources you can share! Parents/guardians are eager to help, and one of the best ways to engage them is by providing simple, creative ideas for supporting their children’s growth mindsets and exploring mathematics at home. They can always visit our parent resources on youcubed, and we highlight some of the resources below.

Featured Resources:

Mathematical Art (K-12)
Children can begin to understand the connection between math and art through everyday conversations at home and in school. In our Mathematical Art activity, we highlight different forms of art and share examples of how to connect the art to mathematical concepts. For example, you can analyze a piece of art by looking for shapes like triangles and making connections to the classifications of the triangles you see. You can ask, "What are the characteristics of the triangles?" You can identify shapes and their area to notice the fraction or percent of the piece that is in different shades of color. You can bring in "Ish" ideas and ask, "What fraction-ish of the painting is yellow? Convince me." Math conversations showing how math can be seen inside of art are a valuable way to see maths in the world around us.

Halving - Maths and Art
In our Halving task, we highlight a common misconception—that equal parts of a whole must always be connected. This lesson helps children see that halves can take many forms, while also encouraging creativity through art. Explore the task here: Halving - Maths and Art.
