Math 812T Summer 2016
Math 812T Summer 2016

Take a look online at our newly released 2017 schedule for the Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI). Some dates may change for math courses and new TEAC and science courses will be added, but use this schedule to start planning your calendar this summer. Summer 2017 tuition and fees also have not yet been posted, but we will update the costs page as soon as the information is available.

We will offer nearly 30 courses designed with K-12 math and science teachers in mind. Formal UNL registration in MyRED begins March 6. For all in-person NMSSI courses, current Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a tuition fellowship from UNL equal to 20 percent of in-state, graduate tuition. Additionally, Nebraska K-12 teachers can apply for supplemental NMSSI Fellowships to further defray tuition costs for NMSSI courses (funds are limited). See our NMSSI website for details. We expect the application to open during the week of March 6.

In addition to many courses offered in Lincoln, this summer we are partnering with Educational Service Units and local school districts to offer courses for mathematics teachers in Grand Island, Hastings, Holdrege and Omaha. Remember, it’s not too late to submit an application to be a part of the TEAMS grant, which will have courses for elementary, secondary math and secondary science teachers in Crete, Fremont, Grand Island, Norfolk and North Platte. See the newsletter story on TEAMS for more details.

Faculty from UNL, UNO and UNK join our pool of instructors, as will many master teachers drawn from the K-12 teacher ranks.

To broaden our ability to serve teachers from across the state, we will also offer three classes online in Summer 2017: one in mathematics (Math 808T), one in statistics (STAT 812T) and one in mathematics pedagogy (TEAC 892 Reasoning and Sense Making). Unfortunately, the 20 percent tuition reduction does not apply to online courses. However, K-12 Nebraska teachers who take one of these online courses may apply for a supplemental fellowship to help defray tuition costs for these online courses.

Check out the NMSSI website at http://go.unl.edu/nmssi for updates on course offerings, information about registration, tuition and fees, and the availability of fellowships.
