Students choose two of three thematic specializations: power and production, international relations or cultural encounters. You will also choose a regional specialization from among Africa, Asia, Europe or Latin America.

In addition to these general requirements, two core courses and a foreign language competency are required. The program is enhanced by a global competency requirement (international study or internship) and a specialized upper division seminar or thesis, both of which make a major more marketable in a competitive job market.

Global studies is an important area of expanding emphasis as the university deals with its and Nebraska's place in the global community. The major is designed to examine the ramifications of increasing interdependence in the modern world.
