The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice provides numerous opportunities to enhance students’ experiences while completing the Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. In the past year, the School sponsored a Distinguished Visiting Scholars Lecture Series and brought to the UNL campus five internationally known experts in the field. The Criminal Justice Student Association’s speaker series included former Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice C. Thomas White and Jeff Gaertig and Bill Tangeman, criminal lawyers with the Nebraska Attorney General’s office. Forty Criminology and Criminal Justice majors and minors obtained valuable work experience through the Criminal Justice Internship program. Thirteen majors and minors from the Lincoln campus participated in the Criminal Justice London Study Abroad program. Undergraduate Criminology and Criminal Justice students were involved in research opportunities through the School’s Juvenile Justice Institute and the Consortium for Crime and Justice Research. One student has a continuing UCARE Research Fellowship on “The Portrayal of Men and Women in Professional Roles in Crime and Justice Television Dramas” supervised by Dr. Candice Batton, SCCJ Director.
