University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the 2019 Engineering Pitch Competition, which kicks off Thursday (Oct. 24). The pitch competition is hosted by the College of Engineering and NUtech Ventures.
Teams must have 1-5 participants, with at least one participant from the College of Engineering. There are two categories: one for undergraduate students and one for graduate students, staff, postdoctoral scholars or faculty members.
Event Details:
Oct. 24: Kick-off event and workshop is 4-6 p.m. in 213 Nebraska Hall; food will be provided.
Dec. 5: Second workshop is 5-8 p.m. at Suite 2220, Nebraska Innovation Campus, where teams will practice their pitch and receive feedback.
Dec. 12: Pitch competition at Othmer Hall.
The workshops will teach participants how to identify value propositions and markets for their solution, as well as how to pitch an idea to the business community. Participants will receive a pitch deck template to use for the pitch contest.
The contest is judged based on participants’ ability to identify an important problem, formulate a value proposition related to solving that problem, estimate market size and describe their business model. Technical details will only be discussed at a very high level.
The competition features cash prizes for the top two teams in each category, which must be used to further develop the business idea.
