Pop-up course on entrepreneurship starts today

Starting Monday, Sept. 14, the College of Engineering will be offering a one-credit hour pop-up class that will equip aspiring entrepreneurs with a foundational understanding of how to plan and start a technology-based business.

Students will have the opportunity to develop business models using ideas inspired by their research, capstone, or other studies. Legal experts and venture capitalists will also provide guest lectures to give an overview of important legal, funding, and intellectual property considerations.

Participants in ENGR 491/891 will learn:

  • The fundamental components of a business model
  • How to prepare and test a business model for their own ideas
  • Basic legal considerations when starting a business
  • Common funding methods for startup companies
  • Intellectual property basics
  • How to present an idea to a professional audience
  • How to provide and receive feedback
