Lark Bear, professional services coordinator with the UNL College of Engineering, shares the following steps necessary for COE students to be considered for participating in NASA's 2013 Microgravity University.

Students must:
• be enrolled fulltime as an undergraduate student (NASA requirement)
• be a US Citizen (NASA requirement)
• be 18 years of age prior to arrival in Houston in spring 2013 (NASA requirement)
• have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 throughout academic year 2012-2013. Freshmen should report their cumulative GPA and class rank of their Senior year of High School. (College of Engineering requirement)

A select set of team members will travel to Johnson Space Center to conduct final experiments in zero gravity. Generally, College of Engineering preference for Flight Crew goes to Seniors and returning members from previous teams. Juniors and Sophomores are considered for positions as Alternate Flyers. Freshmen and Alternate Flyers are Ground Crew.

Applicants will be put into two teams: Freshmen & Sophomores, and Juniors & Seniors
Freshmen & Sophomores will be required to enroll in ENGR 250 – ENGR Co-op. This is a zero credit course so there are no tuition or fees associated with it. This course will be a recommended pre-requisite for being on the team as a Junior/Senior, and you will be learning the fundamentals of engineering as well as hands-on applications in the context of the microgravity project.

Juniors and Seniors will take a more active role working with the Faculty Adviser to select the preferred area(s) of research, draft the proposal, secure grant funding, etc., with Sophomores and Freshmen in a supporting role.

To express interest, please provide one copy of your resume and a one-page interest statement detailing why you would like to be considered. Please include your GPA and year in school. If you are a Senior, please include your interest in serving as a Team Leader. Documents can be e-mailed to Lark Bear at lbear1@unl.edu. They can also be placed in the mailbox outside Lark Bear's office door, 114L within the Dean’s Suite, 114 Othmer Hall. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
