Eric Lueshen, a 2007 UNL chemical engineering graduate and a former Husker place-kicker, was likely the first openly gay Division I college football player.
Lueshen will share his story in a presentation Thursday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m. in Othmer 106. A reception will follow Lueshen’s presentation.
After graduating from UNL, Lueshen completed his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago, focusing on delivery methods to the brain and central nervous system.
Lueshen is a strong advocate for equality in the LBGTQ community and has helped to lobby the Nebraska Legislature on pro-equality bills for the past several years.
Lueshen will also be a featured presenter at the second-annual Men @ Nebraska Conference on Men and Masculinities on Friday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nebraska Union.
