Applications are now being accepted for the third-annual Science Slam, which will be held April 4 from noon-1:30 in the Great Hall of the Wick Alumni Center.
Science Slam is a campus-wide contest in which student researchers communicate their work through short presentations to a diverse audience.
The goal is to communicate and promote university research across the divides of discipline, expertise and skill level.
The event is free and open to the university community. Registration is required to attend the event because a lunch buffet will be provided. There is no deadline to register, but space is limited to the first 100 registrants.
This year’s Science Slam will be emceed by astrophysicist Katie Mack, who will offer a keynote talk prior to the competition. Mack’s talk is open to the public and does not require registration.
Participation in the Science Slam is open to graduate, undergraduate and postdoctoral researchers in all scientific disciplines, including mathematics, engineering and the social sciences.
Presenter applications are being accepted through March 7. Finalists will be announced March 14 and will each receive a $50 prize.
The winner will be decided by the audience at the Science Slam and will earn an additional $250.
New this year, the AAAS Center for Public Engagement with Science and Technology will offer a workshop and coaching session exclusively for finalists.
