The Senior Design Showcase, Nebraska’s premier undergraduate engineering student design event, will be held Friday, April 27 from 1-3:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium's East Stadium Club Level.
The College of Engineering Senior Design Showcase is free to the university community and the public. By attending the showcase, event guests can browse the new and innovative projects from graduating engineering students and vote on their favorite project for the People's Choice Award.
The Senior Design Showcase features approximately 45 student team projects that reflect real-world professional environments. In some cases, students have collaborated with industry clients to develop products and devices that will have immediate impacts.
Some of the projects include:
* A team comprised of electrical and computer engineering and civil engineering students to create a water treatment plant model, which will be displayed outside the East Stadium entrance. The portable model is meant to be a learning tool for future engineering students.
* Four biological systems engineering students working with a medical student at Creighton University to design a device to help first responders perform intubations on patients in the field during emergency situations such as vehicular accidents and battlefield injuries.
* Three teams of mechanical and materials engineering students collaborating with Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital on the development of devices that can directly and immediately help patients.
* Four electrical and computer engineering students who are developing a shoe insole that contains a foot temperature monitoring sensor that can help prevent foot ulcers in diabetes patients.
Also, Olympic bobsled gold medalist and former Husker football player Curt Tomasevicz will guide visitors through the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) in East Stadium. Tomasevicz is conducting research in NAPL as he works toward a Ph.D. in biological systems engineering.
Food trucks will be available on the east side of the stadium, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The trucks are:
* Taco Loco (Mexican cuisine)
* Manilla Bay (Filipino cuisine, only cash accepted)
* Klein's Funnel Cakes (serving cheesesteaks, pulled pork and brisket sandwiches and namesake funnel cakes; meats can also be ordered as toppings for nachos and fries or by the pound)
* nuVibe Juice and Java (espresso, smoothies, Roasterie coffee and homemade baked goods)
