International students accepting summer internship must complete CPT paperwork by May 3

If you are an international student accepting an internship this summer, thus using Curricular Practical Training (CPT), you must complete your CPT paperwork with Engineering Career Services by May 3. You must also complete this paperwork before beginning your employment, or you risk losing eligibility for financial aid, scholarships, housing, and more.

** Steps:

1. You are required to meet with ISSO first to begin the CPT process. They will help you begin your paperwork and walk you through the details.

2. Set up an appointment with me to finish your CPT paperwork. Contact Jen Skidmore via email at jenskidmore@unl.edu

International students may not accept off-campus work experiences after the end of spring term, May 3. Approval must be completed the term prior to work begins. You must also allow 10 working days required for ISSO to process your CPT paperwork before the first date you work for the employer.

** What is Curricular Practical Training?

CPT is employment authorization for an off-campus work experience for international students that MUST be directly related to a student’s major area of study. CPT authorization may be used toward internships, co-ops, or other type of directly related work experiences. CPT must be approved before the student accepts the employment offer.
