Advising Tip of the Week-Time Management

Time Management
Time Management

If you struggle with procrastination or feel like you are always running behind in your courses, you may benefit from implementing some time management strategies. Below is a list of ideas to help you make the most out of each day:

* Create a weekly schedule that includes time for sleeping, free time, work, and school. Make sure to include assignments and tests each week and keep your schedule in a way that you'll know you are likely to access (on your phone, in a planner, on a calendar in your room etc.).
* Be accountable to someone. Ask someone in your support system to check in with you each week. Struggle to get up for morning classes? Ask a friend to meet you for breakfast to help keep you on track.
*Take breaks throughout your day. Go for a quick walk, drink water, check-in with a friend. Consider that a social media break may actually lead to more procrastination.
* Figure out when you feel the most focused and at your best each day. Plan to work on your most difficult tasks then.
* Become okay with saying "no." Learning to prioritize your time is a key skill. Will adding something else on your plate feel rewarding or create additional stress?
