The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is now offering two innovative majors to cater to students interested in entering the world of statistics, data analytics, and data sciences.
Statistics and Data Analytics prepares students to identify a problem which can be informed which can be informed by data, collect the data, analyze it appropriately, and communicate the results effectively. The degree program combines data analysis, statistical thinking, statistical computing, and technical communication skills to develop students into graduates who can tackle real-world problems. Careers in data and statistics are some of the fastest growing in the U.S. as each day people generate more and more data spread across industries including finance, insurance, professional services, agricultural industries, and IT. CASNR began offering this program in 2021, and has seen increased interest in this major as it continues to develop and grow.
Data Science was introduced as a major in 2022 and students can choose to major in Data Science through the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the College of Arts and Sciences, or the College of Engineering at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Through CASNR, Data Science students are able to choose a CASNR minor and take classes from two chosen focus areas: artificial intelligence, software development, data pipeline, mathematical modeling, statistical modeling, applied computing: journalism and humanities, applied computing: sociology, or applied computing: natural resources.
