
Counseling and Psychological Services, (CAPS) is excited to be launching two new mental health support groups for RENO (Racial, Ethnic, National Origin) & BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) AND Hispanic and Latinx populations at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Mental health support groups can help individuals feel less isolated, reduce distress, and improve coping skills. Support groups can also help individuals learn about resources, gain a sense of hope, improve their quality of life, find community, and learn to navigate stress-inducing situations and waves of uncertainties. Detailed information on both groups can be found below.
RENO (Racial, Ethnic, National Origin) & BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Mental Health Support Group
RENO & BIPOC support group offers a safe space where students with diverse Racial, Ethnic, National Origin (RENO) and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) identities can receive and offer support, process their experiences, and share stories and perspectives in a culturally affirming environment. This support group is open to students of all identities and acknowledges the unique mental health struggles that diverse BIPOC ethnic and marginalized identities face during their higher education journeys. The purpose of this 6-session group is to provide support in navigating topics such as race, ethnicity, identity, and intergenerational trauma. It is a safe space to receive and offer support, speak your experience, share feelings, and build community with others who can empathize. Open to both undergraduate and graduate students at UNL.

Raíces (Hispanic & Latinx) Mental Health Support Group
Raíces is a mental health support group for undergraduate and graduate students facilitated by Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at UNL. Raíces translates to "roots" in Spanish. The term represents the deep cultural heritage and ancestry that is a fundamental part of Hispanic and Latinx identities. The purpose of this group is to provide a safe space for students to receive and offer support, process their experiences, thoughts, feelings and build community with others who can empathize. Raíces provides a sense of belonging and connection for participants of all identities who are interested in engaging, acknowledging, and unpacking the unique mental health struggles that individuals of diverse Hispanic and Latin American identities face during their undergraduate studies.
