Resources for National Preparedness Month - September 2019

National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month

As we've seen this past year, tornadoes, floods and fires could affect Nebraskans with little or no notice. Resources are available to help promote preparedness in our communities during National Preparedness Month - September 2019. Graphics, PSA's, educational videos, publications and more are available on-line. Ready-made social media content targets the weekly themes of National Preparedness Month:

Week 1 - September 1-7: Save Early for Disaster Costs
Week 2 - September 8-14: Make a Plan to Prepare for Disasters
Week 3 - September 15-21: Teach Youth to Prepare for Disasters
Week 4 - September 22 - 30: Get Involved in Your Communities Preparedness

Resources are available from FEMA in Spanish. Depending on the resource, other languages are also available.

Fire Prevention Week - October 6-12

This year, let’s focus on the small actions everyone can take to keep themselves and their families safer from fire.

Teach your community about the importance of having working smoke alarms in their home. And, just as important, they need to have a family escape plan and practice it.

You know how quickly little fires can grow into big fires. Make sure to let your community know, they may have as little as two minutes to escape from their home after they hear the smoke alarm.

USFA has many resources you can use to teach the importance of home escape plans.
