UNL AAPG or SEG Chapters - PLEASE TAKE A BRIEF SURVEY
Dear Students,
I am writing to ask you to complete a brief (3 questions only!) survey to evaluate your interest in the current AAPG chapter (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) and the potential addition of the SEG chapter (Society of Exploitation Geophysicists). Both professional societies offer benefits for students (such as fellowships, field and research grants, as well as access to their library resources). In addition, being involved in the associate student chapters not only looks good on your resume, but also provides you with some leadership opportunities that may be critical for future employment.
Here is some general information for your consideration:
AAPG (https://www.aapg.org/students/student-chapters/about) provides generous fellowships both for undergraduate and graduate students, runs the Imperial Barrel competition (the team from our department used to win that one), offers webinars and networking opportunities with established professionals. The student membership is paid by Chevron.
SEG (https://seg.org/studentchapters) also provides student fellowships, field grants, holds annual student-leadership symposiums, runs EVOLVE program (analog of the Imperial Barrel, but not a competition; rather the integrated data analysis guided by the established industry professionals), also offers multiple educational and networking events. No membership is required to be a regular member of the SEG chapter.
Both societies run a joint IMAGE (International Meeting for Applied Geoscience and Energy) annual conventions (https://imageevent.org/2022) that offer many students and early-career activities.
Here is the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XVRWKWV.
I ask you please respond to this survey by the end of Friday, January 28 even if you are not interested (please answer the first question to indicate that). Your input is extremely important and we will proceed with these chapters based on your responses. With that, I ask you to PLEASE speak up!
Thank you,
Dr. Filina
