Students can sign up to model on an international campus fashion show, "Global Glam: A Night of Fashion, Diversity and Community” by Feb 23.
Hosted by the International Student Scholar and Office. "Global Glam" will be held at the Wick Alumni Center from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. March 26.
All domestic and international students who own traditional clothing from their home country or multicultural heritage are invited to volunteer to model for the show. There is no age, size or gender requirement.
After registration, students will receive more details, including the dress rehearsal schedule. Model volunteers will be expected to arrive early for a hair and makeup session and provide their own traditional clothing.
Inspired by the #BreakTheBias social media campaign that promotes solidarity, the goal of "Global Glam" is to demonstrate the range of ways beauty is represented around the world.
"We hope to showcase the rich traditions and cultures that our students in Nebraska represent," said Natalie Baskin, international student success navigator. "We envision the night as an opportunity for international and domestic students, along with members of the community, to gather and celebrate diversity through clothing and style."
Sponsored by the International Student and Scholar Office, Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement and University Housing, this first-time event will feature clothing designed by students from the Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design program and accessories from Lincoln's local independent retailers.
Additional activities include a pre-show performance by a jazz trio composed of doctoral students from the Glenn Korff School of Music, an open market featuring crafts and designs from local immigrant artisans for sale, and a live DJ spinning music to accompany models walking on the runway.
All volunteers will be provided with food, including a pre-show pizza party and access to catering by Venue restaurant during the event. Volunteers will also receive a free raffle ticket, with a chance to win select items donated by the participating retailers in the fashion show. Students interested in volunteering as makeup artists are also encouraged to sign up.
