AAPG-SEG Field Trip

The AAPG/SEG student chapters will have a field trip to Indian Cave State Park led by Dr. Burberry on Saturday, April 9th. Indian Cave State Park is located about 90 minutes southeast of Lincoln, NE or about an 75 minutes northwest of St. Joseph, MO along west bank of the Missouri River. It is known for its large sandstone cave that gives the park its name.

Travel: We are going to be traveling via personal vehicles for this trip. That said, if you are planning on driving (or want a ride), please let me know. I am coordinating carpooling, so we can minimize how many people must drive.

Cost: There is a $6 fee per vehicle (with NE plates, it is more for out of state) to enter the state park. This is another reason to carpool so that we can reduce costs.

Time: The plan is to meet at the Museum at the park (first major parking area after the park entrance on the south side) at 11AM. Dr. Burberry has let me know the drive is about 2 hours so plan accordingly. We will be spending approximately 3 hours in the park, which puts us back in Lincoln between 4-5pm.

Food/water: There is no food/water in the park so if you want to bring a sack lunch feel free to do so. There will be some time scheduled for a lunch break. Please bring water!

Clothing/footwear: Please wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for mud. There will be some minor scrambling to access outcrops as well as light hiking so dress with that in mind.

Please contact Sam Fleagle at sfleagle2@huskers.unl.edu if you are interested in attending.
