Hello Geology Majors,

I hope that things are continuing to go well for you as the semester rolls through it's fourth week. It sounds like the first round of midterm exams are starting this week, so I want to make sure that you know about your resources available on campus. The most important resource that you have is your course instructor and your course TA if you have one. I would strongly encourage you to use your instructor's office hours or to schedule an appointment with them to receive help with your class. Remember, your course instructor wants you to succeed in their course.

Here are a few academic resources outside of your course instructor that you might find useful this semester:

- The Chemistry Resource Center - provides Chemistry tutoring from 8–5 on Mondays–Fridays via Zoom with the links provided to students currently enrolled in Chemistry courses

- The Math Resource Center - provides in-person and on Zoom assistance with MATH 100A, 101, 102, 103, 104, 106, 107, 107H, 203, and 203J on Sundays through Fridays

- The Physics Resource Center - provides Physics and Astronomy tutoring for 100- and 200-level courses from 9-5 on Mondays-Fridays

- The Modern Language Lab - provides tutoring in French, German, and Spanish at varying times on Mondays-Fridays

- The Writing Center - provides in-person and online help by appointment with many different kinds of writing assignments and the assignments don't have to be for English writing classes

- The Center for Academic Success and Transition's (CAST) Study Stop - provides one-on-one tutoring in a wide variety of subjects on an appointment basis; appointments are scheduled through MyPlan

- The Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services' (OASIS) Study Studio - provides in-person and online tutoring in a variety of different subjects from 5-8 pm on Mondays-Thursdays

In addition to the above resources, CAST offers one-on-one academic success coaching and weekly success workshops on a variety of topics. All of the above resources are great, and I would strongly encourage you to use them as you need them.

Academic Probation Students
Now is an excellent time to start working on your additional requirements if you find yourself on Academic Probation Level 1 or 2 for the Fall 2022 semester. In order to use your Priority Registration for Spring 2023 time, you are going to need to complete your Probation Self-Assessment form (found in MyRed within your To-Do Items in the Message Center on the left side). Then, you will need to be meet with me, and depending your situation, we might have a plan for you to complete. This will take some time, and you need to have everything complete before I can lift your hold on Spring 2023 semester enrollment. Priority Registration for Spring 2023 starts on Monday, October 28th, and I know that the time will pass quickly. You have already received a few emails about Academic Probation from the University and the College, so please plan to take action soon!

Fall Advising Schedule
I am taking 45 minute appointments every weekday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm except during my virtual only, drop-in meeting hours, which will continue to be on Mondays at 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and Fridays at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

You can schedule a meeting with me by using the MyPlan system via this link (please see the instructions available here), by calling the College of Arts and Sciences Academic and Career Advising Center at 402-472-4190, by calling me at 402-472-4319, or by emailing me at dpellatz@unl.edu. The easiest way to schedule a meeting with me is by using MyPlan or calling the Advising Center or myself. You can find more information about the virtual only, drop-in advising hours offered by the College at https://cas.unl.edu/drop-in-advising-schedule.

Best wishes, Doug
