Undergraduate research assistants needed (PAID position; includes travel in May 2023)

Dr. Kopacz is looking to hire two undergraduate assistants to serve as administrative assistants for the NSF-funded workshop, Developing Expertise and Building Collaborations to Advance Atmospheric Science Education Research (ASER).

The NSF-funded workshop for the ASER community will take place from May 22nd – May 23rd, 2023 in Minneapolis, MN. The purpose of the workshop is to build collaborations and increase research expertise among emerging and current ASER scholars. This will consist of small focus sessions on research topics and new research collaborations among ASER scholars.

Approximately 60 hours of work is expected between the start date (November 7th, 2022) and the conclusion of the three-day workshop. No prior experience is required, but the undergraduate assistants must be available to help facilitate the workshop in Minneapolis, MN (May 22nd – May 23rd, 2023). The cost of travel, accommodations, and meals during the workshop will be covered. Compensation for the work is $12 per hour.

Prior to the workshop, the student assistants will attend project meetings (via Zoom), assist with collecting and organizing workshop applications, and they will serve as a point of contact for workshop participants (assisting the workshop leadership team and the financial staff at UNL). During the workshop, these students will assist the workshop leadership team in communicating with on-site event planners and workshop participants. Work periods will be scheduled such that the undergraduate assistants will be able to participate in portions of the workshop. In this way, student assistants will gain not only administrative skills, but it will allow them time to network and learn about education research.

I am happy to meet to discuss any questions you may have regarding this position or the details of the workshop. If you are interested and would like to apply, please fill out a short application using this link: https://unlcba.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7PC65FcBYkNMj5A. Applications will be open until 11:59pm on Friday, November 4th, 2022.

Sincerely,

Workshop Organizers

Dawn Kopacz, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Zachary J. Handlos, Georgia Institute of Technology
Peggy McNeal, Towson University
Kathy Quardokus Fisher, Florida International University
